Whitireia New Zealand and WelTec Excellence Awards 2021
Whitireia New Zealand and WelTec Excellence Awards offers a select number of students the opportunity to study undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.
Each undergraduate award has a value of NZD $6,000 towards the tuition fee for three years. The award criteria is required to be met to receive the award for consecutive years.
Each Graduate Diploma award has a value of NZD 2,000 towards the tuition fee for one year
Each Postgraduate Diploma award has a value of NZD 3,000 towards the tuition fee for one year
Each Masters award has a value of up to NZD $5,000 towards the tuition fee for 18 months.
Eligible Programmes
- All Bachelor Degrees
- Graduate Diploma in Engineering
- Postgraduate Diploma in Management
- Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology
- Master of Management
- Master of Information Technology
Selection Criteria
All Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years at the time of application
Have an unconditional offer of place from WelTec or Whitireia for the eligible programmes
Meet Immigration New Zealand requirements for a New Zealand Student Visa including health, character requirements and evidence of financial support.

Undergraduate Award Criteria
- Unconditional offer of place
- 70% or equivalent in High School
- Statement of Purpose
- For 2nd and 3rd year awards, students need to maintain B+ throughout.
- $3000 – 1st year, $2000 – 2nd year, $1000 – 3rd year
Graduate/Postgraduate Award Criteria
- Unconditional offer of place
- 70% or equivalent in their most recent degree qualification
- 2-years work experience in a relevant field (preferable)
- Awarded $2000 for the one year Graduate Diploma programme
- Awarded $3000 for the one year Postgraduate programme and the first year of the Masters programme
- For 2nd year award, students need to attain B+ in their first year
- $3000 – 1st year, $2000 – 2nd year

How to Apply
All excellence awards applications must be submitted by email to the international admissions team, no hard copy applications will be accepted.
2021 English Language Progression Award
The purpose of the award is to acknowledge students who have completed the progress from English to Academic Studies and join a mainstream academic programme immediately after completion of the appropriate NZCEL and Academic English level.
How does it work?
Students who complete NZCEL and Academic English and achieve the entry criteria for their selected academic programme of study are credited the one-time award from their first-year programme fee, a saving of $4,500.00 for NZCEL or $4,100 for Academic English on their academic programme fees.
*Once the student meets the entry requirements for the mainstream programme, they receive an Offer of Place that lists the programme fee less the English Award.
Terms and Conditions
- Receive an Offer of Place for New Zealand Certificate in English Language or Academic English, and a Conditional Offer of Place for their mainstream programme
- Students are responsible to cover the fees for all NZCEL and Academic English fees
- Students who do not progress to the required level of English will need to pay for the required levels of NZCEL and Academic English programmes until they reach the required English proficiency level for their mainstream programme.
- Each student is only entitled to one English Language Progression Award.
- Not applicable if student has another special fee award (i.e Excellence Award).
